Department Overview

Electric Operations ensures the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

Partners with other leaders in Electric Operations to develop and recommend a strategic direction for electric emergency preparedness, emergency response and public partnerships. Oversees staff involved in implementation of emergency plans & processes, training, emergency exercises/drills, communication and actual incident management. Serves as a liaison with public safety agencies during emergencies. Ensures compliance with all company and regulatory safety policies and practices.

  • This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

CA Minimum: $133,000
CA Maximum: $226,000

&/OR

Bay Minimum: $140,000

Bay Maximum: $238,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manages the planning, development and execution of training and exercises across the PG&E enterprise to support compliance with emergency preparedness and response regulations.
  • Ensures an adequate level of preparedness across all staff in their assigned emergency roles. Ensures the completion of preparedness activities across multiple departments depending on the level of the emergency.
  • Ensures emergency planning, training, exercise, and emergency response services to electric, gas and power generation organizations. Drives increased preparedness and capabilities, instills advanced understanding of the Incident Command System, and builds credible public safety partnerships.
  • Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition.
  • Facilitates the authorization process of emergency activation levels and use of mutual assistance as appropriate.
  • Oversees a team serving as the primary point of contact for public sector interaction related to the development and execution of joint exercises with external stakeholders including law enforcement, fire, public works agencies, contractors and utilities and other specialized groups within PG&E's service territory.
  • Participates in the development of emergency recovery metrics. Collects information from post event critiques and ensures action items are completed and enforced. May solicit feedback from public emergency agencies on the quality of PG&E's response. Analyzes trends and recommends improvements to Director and senior leadership.
  • Partners within our communities to develop joint preparedness, response, and recovery plans, conducting joint training and exercises and identifying opportunities for mitigation of disaster impact.
  • Supervises Emergency Management Specialists within the Emergency Training and Exercise Department
  • Uses knowledge of the industry, continuous process improvement opportunities and company business needs to develop emergency management exercise strategy aligned with the business and related emergency management groups in PG&E. Presents recommended strategy to Director and other senior leaders for approval and implementation planning.
  • May attend meetings and present to several external emergency management organizations such as the State Office of Emergency Services (OES), CA Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), California Utilities Emergency Association (CUEA), and Western Energy Institute (WEI).

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 8 years
  • Experience in emergency management planning or related, 5 years
  • Utility industry experience, or related, 2 years

Desired:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Management or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience in restoration and control, electric or gas utilities, or related
  • HSEEP-Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program certification
  • ICS-Incident Command System 100-400 certification
  • MEPP-Master Exercise Practitioner Program certification
  • NIMS-National Incident Management System IS700 certification
