This role is a hybrid position

Some roles require an office while others may be done remotely. This position is considered hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration. Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of our Boston office.

We pride ourselves in delivering world class sound experiences to our customers. We are growing our Audio Platform Engineering team to explore opportunities in a wide range of audio applications and deliver on an expanding product roadmap. The Audio Platform Engineering team is a specialized group developing audio systems that utilize all Sonos devices in applications such as home theater, spatial audio, residential music, and commercial applications. The team drives the development of new sound experiences by defining new audio features, technology, techniques, and audio system architectures.

The engineer in this role will design and execute experiments for evaluation of audio systems performance in the form of measurements, subjective evaluation, technology/feature development, and reporting this work and results to other teams within the organization. Responsibilities will include systems tunings exploration, loudspeaker and systems prototyping, systems DSP flow/layout design and management, and state of the art audio lab management.

Sonos is expanding in the professional and commercial markets and this role is focused on these applications. This exciting opportunity will deliver new sound experiences to the world!

What You'll Need

Basic Qualifications

  • A BS in audio engineering, acoustics, electrical engineering, physics, mechanical engineering, or an equivalent discipline

  • 2-5 years of experience in professional audio system/product design and integration

  • Experience and hands-on knowledge of audio system set-up and evaluation

  • Experience with acoustic analysis tools such as: Smaart, SysTune, CLIO, or similar

  • Qualified applicants must be able to work from our Boston office for an average of 3+ days per week in a state of the art audio laboratory

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to develop audio system DSP including professional open architecture platforms (Q-sys, Soundweb, Sigma Studio,etc.) as well as more custom code based platforms

  • Experience and knowledge of system acoustics including: loudspeaker/loudspeaker interaction, loudspeaker/room interaction, room acoustics

  • Experience with sound system tuning or audio production and mixing

  • Experience with simulation tools such as EASE, MatLab, COMSOL, etc. to model and predict audio system performance

  • Decisive, action-oriented team player who learns quickly, drives innovation, and takes ownership of open issues

  • Personal passion for sound experiences from all forms of media

At Sonos we consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may lead individual compensation to vary depending on job related qualifications, skills, and experience. All full time employees are eligible for merit increases, discretionary bonuses, and equity. Our job postings may span more than one career level and the base pay range may be modified in the future based on changing market conditions. The starting base pay for this role for all US candidates is between:

$93,000 and $103,800

Please note that compensation details listed in US job postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
