Position description

The Department of Spanish & Portuguese at the University of California, Davis, would like to recruit Unit 18 Lecturers for the 2024-2025 academic year. The field of specialization is open, although an ability to teach all levels of the Spanish language, including Spanish for Heritage Speakers, is ideal. Successful candidates will have experience and competence in teaching language courses at the college level. Duties include teaching 6-8 courses per year.

Assignment of classes, hours of instruction, and office hours are at the discretion of the department. Classes are held Monday-Friday, normally between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Salary is commensurate with education, qualifications, and experience and a reasonable estimate for this position is $66,259 to $72,404 based on a 100% full-time appointment. This appointment is renewable contingent on department teaching needs and demonstration of excellence in teaching.

Shared office space, access to the campus library, copier, and computer facilities will be provided. This appointment is renewable contingent on program teaching needs and funding.

Requirements:
A Ph.D. in Spanish, applied linguistics, and/or any related field is preferred, although applicants with an MA will also be considered. The successful candidates will have experience teaching Spanish and expertise in one or more of these areas: linguistics, heritage language pedagogy, second language acquisition, history of Spanish, Latinx Cultures, and/or sociolinguistics. Applicants should possess native or near-native language and cultural competence in Spanish and English, and should have a degree in hand by July 1, 2024.
