Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Embedded Systems Engineer to drive the development of a productized battery management and control system. As part of our System Controls team, you will write the software for the control and telemetry of our Multi Day Storage battery system. This role is focused on the control of our Inverters and DCDCs to ensure the correct battery cells get efficiently charged at the correct rates. What you'll do:
  • Develop and maintain a Matlab/Simulink model of power flow algorithms for real time control of inverters, DCDCs, and battery strings to maximize power capability and efficiency.

  • Deploy these power flow algorithms on embedded Linux platforms in our Golang codebase

  • Test this power flow code in our power conversion lab as well as field deployments to ensure the deployed software meets product requirements.

  • Collaborate with the Power Systems Electrical Engineering team to ensure bus stability across all operational conditions while meeting power flow goals.

  • Manage the software development and delivery process through bring-up, integration, test and high volume manufacturing.

What you'll bring:
  • 7+ years of experience in embedded software development.

  • Strong knowledge of Power Systems Modeling and Control, preferably with Matlab/Simulink experience.

  • Strong knowledge of a systems language such as Golang (preferable), C++ or Rust

  • Working knowledge of protocols such as Protobufs, MQTT, GRPC as well as distributed databases and message queues

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
