Position Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Santa Clara, CA
Job Term: Full-Time
The Opportunity:
The Sr Mechanical Design Engineer will be working with a cross functional team to design and develop the next
generation of trace gas analyzers, as well as system solutions to address the varied marketplaces
that benefit from Picarro's technology and capabilities. The engineer will be expected to contribute
from the earliest phases of new product development, all the way through manufacturing handoff and into sustaining.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Key member of the engineering team.
  • Contribute to the mechanical and hardware design efforts for new and existing products.
  • Critically review early concepts and take part in detailed design reviews throughout the development process.
  • Bring creativity and problem-solving skills to the design and product development effort.
  • Design, build and
  • Document product designs in a PLM system and create ECOs. Includes CAD drawings, BOMs, and working with supply chain to manage sourcing information.
  • Provide documentation, training, and necessary support when transferring designs from engineering to manufacturing.
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering with sustaining activities.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors in mechanical engineering (Masters preferred).
  • 5-10 years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
  • Proficient with Solidworks software.
  • Design machined and sheetmetal parts, welding experience a plus.
  • Experience designing fabricated parts from various metals and plastics.
  • Design with subassembly and system level integration considerations.
  • Opto-Mechanical experience (optical systems & tooling) is a plus.
  • Thermal management of industrial and scientific instrumentation.
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering best practices
  • Strong communications skills, both written and oral
  • Must possess the ability to work across functional boundaries and organizational levels inside the company.
  • FEA modeling, ergonomic/industrial design practices, fluid/gas handling
  • Drafting with standard drafting practices (GD&T a plus).
  • Hands on in development and manufacturing environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting and determining root cause.
  • Familiar with cable design and cabling.
  • Familiar with designing for and testing to compliance standards (CE, UL, CSA, Semi-S2, etc)
Salary & Benefits:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $140 - $160. Your base salary range and title will be determined based on the location, experience, qualification, skills, knowledge, level, and pay of employees in similar positions.
