Overview

Esri is looking for a meticulous, forward-thinking editor who can handle a high volume of work, review a variety of material with exceptional attention to detail, demonstrate a keen interest in technological concepts, and who can take the lead on implementing innovative uses of artificial intelligence (AI) for copy editing. Esri's copy editing team specializes in ensuring quality and consistency in editorial style and altering text to maintain readability and brand fidelity. The role includes project management, a strong overall command of language and narrative concepts, copy editing, proofreading, rewriting media content copy, fact-checking, and quality assurance. This role would also prioritize working with existing and emerging AI technologies to develop ways to optimize copy editing responsibilities and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Editing: Review and copy edit a wide range of written materials including articles, blog posts, concept papers, marketing materials, and technical documentation for clarity, accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and style adherence. Responsible for editing decisions based on Esri style and other required references to a variety of challenging assignments, editing a wide array of complex content pertaining to technology, services, software products and solutions, global business development, corporate marketing, and multiple industries.
  • Technical Understanding: Leverages AI and emerging technologies to improve the editing workstream and overall productivity. Use analytical problem-solving techniques to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough quality assurance checks to identify and remedy any errors in content prior to publication. Provide final quality control review for high-priority and strategic documents, public-facing documents, printed material, and agreements. Ensure and maintain comprehensive, accurate version control.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with leadership, writers, editors, subject matter experts, designers, and other stakeholders to uphold editorial standards and meet project deadlines. Collaborate with teams to apply best practices in multiple content mediums. Mentor junior editors and contribute to the development of editorial training materials and resources.
  • Style Compliance: Ensure that all content follows established style requirements, brand guidelines, and industry standards while maintaining a consistent tone and voice. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Esri style guide.
  • Be an expert: Verify the accuracy of technical information, statistics, and references cited in written materials, working closely with subject matter experts and writers when necessary. Provide constructive feedback and guidance to writers to help improve their writing skills and ensure alignment with editorial standards. Suggest reorganizing, recommend changes, and offer constructive critiques. Serve as subject matter expert for writing group as well as other departments.
  • Audience Fluency: Adapt materials and editing for an array of differing strategic audiences, ranging from the general public to business executives to technical experts.
  • Product Expertise: Collaborate with team members and external stakeholders to keep current on Esri products, services, and events as well as geospatial industry terms and usage.
  • Stay Updated: Stay abreast of industry developments, emerging technologies, best practices in editing and content creation to continuously contribute to advancing editorial processes and outputs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English or similar field
  • 5+ years of experience copy editing projects with varying degrees of complexity, size, and type
  • Ability to score in the 98th percentile in a written test demonstrating expertise in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage
  • Demonstrates a mastery of language and ability to convey messages to varied audiences
  • Strong skill set for storytelling, a mastery of grammar and the English language, and the ability to tailor your writing to tell that story on a variety of platforms
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe project management applications
  • Familiarity with and strong aptitude for testing and implementing the use of AI technologies in copy editing workflows and processes to enhance productivity and capacity
  • The desire to learn about and remain current with developments in the geospatial industry and with Esri technology
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, exercise good judgment, and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment and communicate effectively to peers and leadership

$76,960$128,960 USD
