OVERVIEW:

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for maintenance and janitorial duties of the Harbor Light Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform tasks associated with janitorial and maintenance needs of the Harbor Light Center, Harbor House Family Emergency Shelter, Lighthouse Corps, and Officer's Quarters
  • Maintain excellent outer appearance appeal of the campus
  • Assist with facility projects involving professional vendors, contractors and co-workers
  • Report damages, issues, and assist in coordinating repairs
  • Perform maintenance of all properties including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and building renovation work
  • Keep track of inventory on janitorial, hygiene, and maintenance supplies
  • Drive for pick-up, deliveries, and hauling as assigned
  • Coordinate care for the fleet vehicles for the Harbor Light Center
  • Report completed work order forms to Facilities Manager or Executive Director
  • Provide regular written and oral reports to Facilities Manager and Executive Director as needed
  • Assist in the removal of trash from each building
  • Be informed of, and maintain, the SDS sheets as required by OSHA
  • Adhere to company safety policies to create a safe environment for everyone
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • CA Driver's license (required)
  • Experience in building maintenance and repair work
  • Experience in painting and light carpentry, plumping, and electricity
  • First Aid and CPR certification (within first fourteen days of employment - company provided)
  • Tuberculosis clearance (within first seven days of employment - company provided)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and appliances.
  • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and hazardous components
  • Knowledge of all product safety and handling requirements per OSHA-approved training

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software
  • Relevant janitorial and maintenance equipment

Qualifications

Education
High School or Equivalent (required)

Experience
Experience in painting and light carpentry, plumping, and electricity (preferred)
Experience in building maintenance and repair work (preferred)

Licenses & Certifications
