Job Roles

  • Accurately codes records using ICD-10-CM, HCPCS/CPT coding rules and guidelines, within the timeframe established by department.
  • Assists and confers with other coders and supervisor concerning any problem records.
  • Communicates effectively with providers concerning diagnoses and procedures to assure proper coding and reimbursement. Tracks open/close encounter reports to ensure that all patients seen in the clinic are properly coded. Assists clinic staff with coding questions and issues.
  • Understand and capture accurate risk scores and HCC category coding supporting PACE services.
  • Work with providers directly on appropriate and compliant documentation.
  • Work with monthly audits, including corrections, edits, and applicable responses.
  • Work with auditor reviews of coding practices and documentation to identify areas for improvement and provide education and training to clinicians and coding staff when needed.
  • Updates coding books with changes as they occur.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Medical Record Technology preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of medical coding experience required; two (2) years is strongly preferred.Experience during CPC-Apprenticeship certification period qualifies.
  • CPC or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) certification required.
  • Certified Risk Coder (CRC) certification required.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • RHIT or RHIA certification preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the essential job duties, and which meets any required state or federal certification requirements.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base range for this position, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses.

$22.00 - $30.00

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
