Summary:

Dedicated to maintaining a secure environment within the Community and its surroundings, the Security Manager recruits, hires, trains, deploys and mentors a professional, proactive security and transportation staff.

Responsibilities:

* Ensures that the Community environment is safe and secure; constantly assesses and revises security procedures to reflect the needs of the Community.

* Organizes, plans and directs the security/transportation department activities.

* Hires and trains security and transportation; ensures that all security and transportation personnel perform their duties in the most professional manner.

* Cross-trains security and transportation staff to enable both functional areas to be performed by either discipline as needed, without compromising quality.

* Fosters a departmental environment of individual integrity and total customer service and hospitality toward the residents, staff and all visitors to the Community.

* Educates and interacts with staff and residents to heighten awareness of personal safety and guard against fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry.

* Participates in the application, training and documentation of all facets of the facility emergency plan and Title 22 requirements.

* Interacts and establishes a rapport with the local authorities (police, fire, etc.).

* Ensures that the security and transportation team provide all required support to each department in a professional, courteous manner consistent with the mission of the Community.

* Ensures that all reports generated by the security department are forwarded to the appropriate department(s) and/or individual(s) concerned.

* Meets with the Executive Director or designee weekly to discuss important events or occurrences affecting the Community, Residents, staff, visitors and environs.

* Participates in weekly management meetings.

* Oversees the issuance of name badges to all staff, contractors and visitors.

* Ensures that all visitors are correctly identified, announced, and signed in and out.

* Audits assets; determines the physical security of portable assets located throughout the community; recommends procedures to ensure asset security.

* Maintains the Emergency Response list and DNR binder.

* Oversees the daily audit of the security system, nurse call system, Fire control system, 911 system and review of playback cameras.

* Participates in community emergency plan training and fire drills; assumes the pre-assigned emergency duties in the event of an emergency or disaster.

* Assists in implementing the Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

* Attends quarterly Safety meetings at the corporate office; works with other department directors/managers to establish annual safety goals for the Community.

* Assists the Facility Services Director in coordinating the Community's Hazard Communication Program.

* Coordinates the activities of the Resident and staff safety committees; takes minutes of committee meetings and follows up on committee recommendations.

* Assists in investigating incidents and accidents; recommendations steps to avoid such events in the future, and to minimize security/safety risks.

* Assists supervisor in creating the department budget; ensures that expenses remain within budget.

* Constantly assesses the fiscal activity of the department and makes recommendations for cost savings plans without compromising service quality.

* At all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with staff, colleagues and supervisors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Must be able to function independently, with personal integrity, flexibility and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, guests, visitors and support agencies.

* Works well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes completing deadlines.

* Excellent communication skills (written and oral).

* Computer literacy.

* CPR/first aid certification.

* Must be able to cross-train in all related functions.

* Fire drill certification and fire safety training (fire command station operation).

* All certifications required by local law.

Education and Other Qualifications:

* Two years' minimum security managerial/supervisory experience

* Previous law enforcement or military background a plus.

* High school diploma or equivalent

* College degree or related life experience preferred.

* High Rise Fire Safety Director Certification a plus.

* Must complete and pass a physical examination with tuberculosis (TB) screen prior to employment.

* Employment contingent upon fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice.

The employee is often required to move continually throughout the work day; maintain dexterity to pinch small objects; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

* Must be able to assist with the evacuation of residents, staff and patients within the Community.

* Must be in good general health, demonstrate emotional stability, and be able to cope with the stress and responsibilities of the position.

* Must be able to work with the disabled, ill, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the Community.

Exposure Risk:

* The Security Manager is at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids.
