Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to develop the next generation cell structure. This role reports into our Cell Interface Design Lead. As part of our Cell Interface team, you will ideate, define, and validate the cell structure in collaboration/partnership with a support design engineer, test engineering, manufacturing, supply, reliability and quality teams. What you'll do:
  • Lead the design of the next generation of the cell vessel structure, particularly in the design of large-format plastic components and assemblies

  • Develop functional requirements in close collaboration with members of the Cell Engineering and Systems Engineering teams

  • Define and drive necessary analysis (e.g., FEA), hands-on testing, and failure analysis of plastic structural components

  • Analyze component and assembly tolerances and develop cost/manufacturing/performance/reliability trades

  • Collaborate with module design engineers to ensure seamless integration of all components

  • Guide manufacturing engineers and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high-volume production

What you'll bring:
  • Demonstrated experience in plastic component design for structural applications

  • Excellent communication, organizational skills, and proven mentorship abilities

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 7+ years, or Master's with 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical design and high proficiency in CAD

  • Demonstrated experience with the definition of verification testing for structural components

  • Direct experience with high-volume manufacturing, fabrication, and prototyping techniques; experience with tight-tolerance, multi-material component design for harsh environments
