POSITION SUMMARY

The Machinist sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Status: Full-Time
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday

Day Shift 7:00am-3:30pm

Machinist III Salary Range: $34.20 - 41.03

Essential Functions Statement(s)

    Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent fabricating.
  • Studies drawings, specifications and sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of what will be the finished work piece.
  • Fits and assembles machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machining ability of materials, and layout techniques.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plates, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Installs machined replacement parts into mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and performs tests to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, and others to resolve machining and assembly problems

Level 3: Train level 2 CNC machinists. Have thorough understanding of G&M codes. Have mastered the operation of every machine tool in the machine shop (CNC lathe, surface grinder, etc.). Must be capable of assisting the supervisor or lead person with day to day operation tasks from the department. Make recommendations for new cutter purchase and usage. Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and production. Work with designers and engineers to resolve print/part issues and exchange technical information. Works under limited or no supervision. Provides high complexity assistance and training to level 1 and 2 employees.

Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience: Associate's Degree (two-year college or technical school) is required. Five to seven years as a CNC Machinist with job shop experience. Manual machining, lathe and mill background is a must. In addition, experience with Fadal VMC and Thermwood CNC Router machines a plus.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer literate with the ability to learn new software applications.
