What you'll do

As a core member of our team, you'll serve as the crucial first touchpoint for requests flowing into DocuSign's global Product Legal group. With intense curiosity about our transformative technologies, you'll engage closely with product, technical and program leads to distill complex legal needs into clear guidance that powers our expansive digital agreement solutions.


In this high-visibility role, you'll partner with senior subject matter experts across Legal, Product, Compliance, Security and Privacy to deliver well-informed legal strategies. You'll collaborate closely with squads building our AI-driven services, providing real-time support on issues spanning electronic signatures, agreement management, identity verification, and data strategy and governance.


The frontline responsibilities include skillfully assessing incoming requirements, looping in specialized product counselors while ensuring tight alignment between fast-paced roadmaps and evolving regulatory landscapes. With prior technology transactions experience, you'll help uphold the highest legal standards for our rapidly innovating solutions. We are looking for a counsel who is adaptable, loves to learn, and operates with a high degree of integrity.

This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Product & Partnerships.

Responsibility

  • Provide legal guidance to product managers, engineers and other key stakeholders on a wide range of legal issues related to the entire DocuSign product suite
  • Counsel on issues such as electronic signature legality, AI/ML, intellectual property, open source software, data privacy and others impacting DocuSign's services
  • Partner closely with a diverse set of stakeholders to help ensure compliance globally and across multiple product lines
  • Work collaboratively with DocuSign's internal teams to ensure alignment between core business priorities and regulatory goals
  • Lead on initiatives designed to build and develop Product Legal business processes to support our massively scaling business
  • Manage open matter across the Product Legal Team, ensuring the right subject matter engagement from ideation, through beta and release

Job Designation

Remote: Employee is not required to be in or near an office frequently and works from a designated remote work location for the majority of the time.

What you bring

Basic

  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience at a leading law-firm or in-house at a technology company.
  • Ability to deconstruct legal puzzles into executable action plans and roadmaps
  • Experience advising clients as product counsel at a technology company
  • Experience with technology transactions (e.g., SaaS licensing).
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the role is located

Preferred

  • Solid understanding of cloud and software industries, including the SaaS model, and a strong desire to work on tough legal, compliance and advocacy issues in these areas
  • Fluency collaborating in Agile/DevOps environments via Jira, Confluence, Miro and Figma
  • Experience interpreting and counseling on global regulatory requirements for a technology company
  • Ability to quickly re-prioritize based on developing and ever-changing business needs
  • Experience collaborating with a diverse group of cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
  • Entrepreneurial drive to help evolve legal processes and knowledge management


Wage Transparency

Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations:

California: $118,300 - $182,775. base salary
