Dine Brands Global is seeking an experienced Architectural visionary who is interested in getting into the nuts and bolts of developing highly adaptable prototypes and remodel programs that are executable across a variety of global regions.

This role contributes to Dine Brands success by creating comprehensive global architectural solutions that deliver a successful, branded guest experience while meeting design, cost, schedule, and operational requirements. The sustainability of current restaurant designs and the evolution of new concepts will integrate new strategic initiatives that will ultimately come to life within the restaurant environment.

You will possess a strong architectural and design skill set and understanding of issues related to facility design / prototype plan management / scope development and RFI's with a brand building focus. You will be self-motivated, proactive, and passionate providing prototype construction

documentation/templates, specifications, cost modeling analysis and technical support for the development and execution of IHOP and Applebee's & Fuzzy's Taco restaurants. Change management, value engineering, equipment model management and baseline cost management are key success criteria for fulfilling this role.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Prototype Documentation development and support for all building types.

    • Development of building plans, specifications and scopes of work to put together a full set of documents necessary to build a IHOP, Applebee's, Fuzzy's traditional or non- traditional asset

  • Technical support for development execution teams

    • Ability to respond to requests regarding:

    • Clarification of intent

    • Building and equipment specifications

    • Specification of alternate materials

    • Contractor inquiries on construction methods

    • Life cycle costs

    • Substitution requests from contractors and franchisees

  • Development & support of development tools (cost models, baselines, equipment models etc.)

  • Value Engineering, Margin Improvement, Bidding and Negotiation

    • Continually seek to reduce costs through:

    • Sourcing of alternate manufacturers or suppliers of building materials and interior decor

    • Managing the establishment of equipment and material specifications designed for the bidding process.

    • Analyzing equipment and material bids to ensure system compatibility and comparable use and life cycle.

    • Working with contractors and franchisees to capture cost saving ideas and evaluating their potential for success.

    • Researching industry trends for new technologies that would provide lower cost equipment or fixtures.

  • Change Management

    • Manage how changes are incorporated into plans deriving from feedback from the field or initiated by a functional group including:

    • Obtaining alignment of other functional groups to change or modify building or equipment specifications.

    • Documenting the cost changes associated with any change in specification.

    • Establishing a historical record for any change

    • Seeking feedback on any change from the end user

    • Managing the feedback conduit from the end users of the construction plans

  • Partnership / Collaboration

  • Post-audit of regional design ethos and adaptation in support of best practices.

  • Participate in Know how building, travel as needed for project execution and support.

  • Review and approve site-specific design adaptations and make recommendations for optimized improvement, including design elements, layout and operational functionality.

  • Work directly with franchise organizations and consulting firms of franchise organizations to ensure appropriate local adaptations are made while embracing the critical design principles.

  • Support site-specific post-audit process in partnership with local business units to ensure consistent execution of brand standards.

  • Stay up to speed on design trends in the field and in touch with the Restaurant, Retail, Branding and Entertainment markets.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and other key stakeholders to meet project objectives.

Skills and Experience

  • BFA or BS degree in Architecture

  • 8+ years in the Architectural / Engineering field including commercial and restaurant design-related activities

  • Professional Registration is a plus but not required

  • Proven record of project management skills, strong technical capabilities, and relationship building

  • Excellent communication, customer service, conflict-resolution, and organizational skills

  • Strong computer skills: Proficient in AutoCAD or Revit as well as web and cloud communications tools

  • Strong work ethic, ability to multi-task and a positive can-do attitude

  • Strong business judgment that can be applied to create sound business solutions

  • Strong personal accountability to meet and exceed goals and track performance towards objectives

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and request within a quick paced environment

  • Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities.
