Job Description (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

Transactional & Project-Development Paralegal

Develops and maintains familiarity with all stages of energy development projects, including offtake agreements, construction and procurement contracting, permitting, real estate transactions and other commercial agreements to support Legal Department and Calpine business team members. Establishes and maintains records and files for Calpine and its subsidiaries.

Prepares, reviews, and files offtake, construction, regulatory and other transactional documents. Maintains departmental records, including use of SharePoint and Teams channels. Manages execution of complex, multi-party agreements, including use of DocuSign. Administers and manages submittals to regulatory agencies and transaction counterparties. Supports construction project audits. Prepares meeting notices, checklists, manages internal legal and regulatory compliance calendars and ensures timely submission of regulatory filings for multiple agencies. Position requires extensive interaction with other departments, including construction, origination, development, operations, EHS and contracts.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of a variety of development, construction, energy and environmental regulatory requirements and administering governmental contracts.
  • Professional with applied experience in compliance.
  • Detailed orientated. Able to juggle multiple competing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Summarizes, tracks, and leads project-team reviews of obligations and milestones in major development agreements.
  • Researches and summarizes contractual, legal, and industry-specific issues.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope ranging from moderate to complex.
  • Uses independent judgment requiring in-depth analysis of variable factors. Collaborates with senior professionals in selection of methods, techniques and analytical approach.
  • Little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. Self-directed and self-motivated.
  • Serves as project/technical lead on small to medium sized projects; may coordinate work of professionals, technicians and others outside of the Legal department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience using Microsoft, Excel, Power Point, Workshare, DocuSign, and Sharepoint.
  • Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Notary or must be willing to complete requirements to become a notary.
  • Energy industry experience preferred.
  • Requires 5+ years' experience, with 2 years minimum of transactional paralegal experience. Large law firm experience preferred.

Salary Information

Salary Range - $96,480 to $120,600
