Global Diagnostics Partnering Strategy & Transactions Lead

The Diagnostics Partnering organization drives Roche Diagnostics partnerships including R&D, technology, biomarker, digital, and commercial deals of every deal type, worldwide. Currently, the Diagnostics Partnering group in Pleasanton, CA, USA has a Partnering Lead position available on the Diagnostics Partnering Strategy and Transactions team.

The position sources opportunities and builds and leads deal and diligence teams to evaluate opportunities and negotiate agreements to access promising partnering opportunities across our different business & customer areas.

Key Responsibilities

Want - Define external growth strategy:

  • Perform and provide expertise & thought leadership as part of the squad teams to proactively generate strategic opportunities (areas/segments) that contribute to the Roche Diagnostics strategy

  • Co-create with internal stakeholders strategic partnering WANTs and target product profiles (TPP) in line with the Roche Diagnostics` Strategy.

Find - Identify and prioritize external partnership options:

  • Generate and secure a continuous flow of attractive partnership options by maintaining a strong internal business & customer areas, Life Cycle teams, R&D, networks, regions and affiliates, and global and group functions) & external network (companies, banks, VCs, academic institutions, etc)

  • Proactively conduct in close collaboration with technology chapter & business stakeholders systematic screens for suitable technologies, products, digital solutions, and companies

  • Perform evaluation (strategic, financial assessment & feasibility assessment, selection of appropriate deal structure) & prioritization against strategic WANTs and TPP of external partnership options with an emphasis on business modeling.

Get & Create - Agree on partnership structure with an external partner

  • Lead the preparation, structuring, and negotiation of new business partnership and transaction agreements (across the entire range of transaction types including Licensing, R&D, and Commercial Collaboration agreements) with the external partner - in collaboration with all other team/squad members and internal stakeholders. On M&A transactions, you will be working in a team together with a Project Leader from Group Business Development.

  • As part and alongside squad members, lead and provide best practices in planning and conducting Due Diligence (external partnership options meet strategic WANTs or TPP)

  • Prepare objective, sound, and well-prepared recommendations regarding specific business partnerships to senior management and respective governance bodies

Manage - Ensure transition to internal stakeholders to allow for effective implementation:

  • Establish a business relationship and smoothly hand over to Partnering Alliances & Ecosystem Management chapter members following the execution of the partnership or transaction

Who You Are (Required)

  • Advanced degree (i.e. Masters, PhD, JD, MBA) in science, engineering, business, or a related field

  • Two years of experience or background in business or corporate development, strategy consulting, venture capital, investment banking or related is required

  • Broad knowledge and track record ideally across various types of business partnerships and/ or transactions including M&A, Licensing, R&D, Commercial Collaboration agreements

  • Strong analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills

  • Experienced in planning and organizational skills including a track record of managing multiple high-performing cross-functional teams and projects

  • Experience and knowledge of applying agile principles to project teams

  • Knowledge of accounting, finance & financial modeling

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to distill problems/ proposals into clear and succinct mgmt/governance bodies' decision documents

  • Ability to build sustainable relationships with internal/external stakeholders through engendering trust and a collaborative mindset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of the diagnostics industry

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Pleasanton, CA is $128,000 - $237,800. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
