Description of Position: Los Medanos College seeks applications for instructors to teach Ethnic Studies classes with an area of emphasis in Ethnic Studies related fields, such as Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Native American and Indigenous Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian American Studies, Pacific Islander Studies, or African American/Black Studies. Applicants must be able to teach face to face classes, either at the Pittsburg campus or the Brentwood campus. The Ethnic Studies classes include Introduction to Ethnic Studies, Introduction to Native American and Indigenous Studies, Introduction to Black Studies, Critical Thinking in Ethnic Studies, Racial and Ethnic Justice Movements, and Immigrant Experiences in the U.S. Additional Ethnic Studies courses are being developed in Asian American Studies, Pacific Islander Studies, Chicanx Studies, and Latinx Studies, so any experience teaching these courses as well is useful.

Duties and Responsibilities: Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules; 2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking; 3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work; 4. meeting with students outside of class; 5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics; 6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas; 7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member; 8. maintaining accurate academic records; 9. performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience: Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.
