Job Description
Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a mid-level Electrical Engineer with a specialty in power systems to join our Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation (MEI) team in our Walnut Creek or Oakland office. This role will work on both large and small projects locally, domestically and internationally preparing plans, designs and plan production for general electrical engineering on a wide variety of projects which may include lighting, power, and grounding plans, one-line diagrams, panel and cable schedules, and different project specifications. Projects include: electrical infrastructure for ports, waterfronts, industrial, commercial, offshore wind, government and military facilities. You will work with an international MEI team and Senior Engineers around the company through our intraoffice staff utilization program. You will support projects both on the job site as well as in the office. This position offers a hybrid work schedule.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Complete electrical designs to support firm-wide projects by working with Project Managers (any discipline) and electrical teammates
  • Provide design calculations, design drawings, and project specifications for the following but not limited to:
    • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Lightning protection systems
    • Communications systems
    • Electrical equipment design (including switchboards and switchgear)
    • Selective coordination and arc flash studies
  • Prepares detailed contract documents, studies and cost estimates
  • Perform construction management activities such as submittal reviews and construction observations for electrical work on projects
  • Assist with the electrical designs for multidiscipline projects
  • Assist with evaluations of project scopes
  • Travel to the site or meet with clients, sub-consultants, utilities, and other parties to investigate site conditions and meet project requirements
  • Assist in companywide Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; required
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering; preferred
  • Professional Engineer licensure in the State of California; preferred
  • 4 to 6 years of related experience required in:
    • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Communications systems
    • Electrical equipment design and specifications (including switchboards and switchgear)
    • Power System studies preferred
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit; required
  • Proficiency in ETAP or EasyPower and AGI32; preferred
  • Analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), report and letter writing and oral communication skills
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC); required
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

The mid-range of this role is $104,408 to $127,609 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualifications in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California market.

Working conditions:

Majority of work is office-based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Site visits may also include working around live electrical equipment and systems. This position offers a hybrid work schedule.
